    Default Gaming Laptop Suggestions Wanted

I am thinking about buying my first gaming laptop (hell, my first laptop ever - I own a netbook though). What specific laptops would guild members recommend for multiplayer gaming when I am away from home? Please be specific about the brand and model number. Are there any caveats to laptop gaming that I should be aware of?

Current games I would like to play are World of Tanks and Homefront.

    Thanks.

the problem I've always had with a gaming laptop is the size of the keyboard. Everything just seems so much smaller and it's always been more difficult for me to game, especially an FPS.

If you were playing, say WoW or another MMO then I think it's much easier. For example I can easily play EVE online on a laptop.

Besides, for the cost of a laptop for gaming specs you could buy a much nicer desktop.

    Just my opinion.

But maybe something like this? although I'm sure you can find similar for cheaper.

but it's got a stand alone video card as well as 8GB of RAM running and a larger 17.3" monitor.

Cant go wrong there. I would not suggest a Toshiba Qosmio though. Those things, even the new ones, have some pretty bad heat issues. For best bang for buck and reliability, go for the Asus G73

hmm...I just read a review of one in Maximum PC that they liked. They gave it their 9/10 Kick Ass! award

    AVADirect Clevo P150HM http://www.avadirect.com/gaming-note...asp?PRID=19610

Upgrades from stock on their test model are probably not all important. They upgraded to 8gb 1066 ram, i7-2720QM, CrucialC300 256gb SSD, Blu ray burner, GeForce GTX 485M. You could chop the price a ton by dropping some of their mods and not lose any performance.

The only other thing to consider is battery life. Games can kill batteries a lot faster than you expect.

I have an ASUS, my son has an MSI. They have both been bery bery good to us.

Note of caution when looking for laptops. The resolution on the display port of the laptop may be higher than what the screen has. Be careful, or you could get a 1366x768 display although the laptop is advertised as 1920x1080.

Also, a 17" laptop is BIG. Very BIG!
    Siggy.

Well, actually the Blu-Ray Burner will give you the largest optical format capacity for data storage around.

But I know most think of BR as only movies, but the reason the HD movies are on Blu-Ray is simply due to capacity. It can hold 50GB dual layer and I know they have discs that have more layers, but I dont' believe (not sure) they have a PC burner capable of utilizing higher yet.
