I've been ASUS for years. Motherboard, monitors, laptop and even tablet.

3570K CPU is a pretty sweet spot, although 1.5TB sounds pretty small.

For a desktop, I'd do 8GB minimum. You're not buying for what you need today, you're buying for a reasonable comfort level for the life of your computer.

    Oops, gotta go. . .

I have used nothing but Asus motherboards and Sapphire video cards in my last 4 builds. I am very satisfied with the product. If you don't want an ssd (I have used them in two of my builds without problems as the operating system drive). I use a Western Digital 10,000 rpm drive for my data (most hard drives are 7,500 rpm).

I would suggest getting a new case so you have USB 3.0 ports on the front and drive cage arrangement to allow for a huge-ass video card. You can get a nice case for less than $75.00 and the case only holds the goods so I don't over spend on the case.

If you are going to use this primarily as a gaming machine why do need a terrabyte drive? A game only stays on my hard drive as long as I am playing it. On my latest build I only installed Borderlands 2 (leaving off Battlefield 3, Skyrim, and World of Tanks since I hadn't played them in several months). I know storage is cheap but I am not a hoarder (lol).

My personal preferences myself: I would go a little bigger on the PSU, give you room to grow, I would try to get a K corei7 chip, the 2700K gives a shite ton on power with the ability to overclock, and i prefer WD hard drives myself, I personally use a 1TB Caviar black drive for my storage drive.

If you're at the end of your budget, don't fret, you have a killer machine there. Everyone likes different things :)

Have fun with your build and I wish upon you no boot errors

Thumbs up Re: Help! Need pc build

Thanks George ! I could go higher on psu to 750.

I'll take a look at that WD drive.

I want to get a new mouse and keyboard too, but still looking. I had a razor diamondback I loved, but they don't make it anymore.

Looks like a good rig, there. I just built a rig for my sis and the Hyper 212 EVO didn't fit in her case by a few centimeters. Luckily, I was able to fit it in my 4 year old rig (full ATX tower... just barely). It looks like the phantom case is wide enough to hold it. The cooler was a little bit of a pain to install, but the performance is amazing. It took my 4 year old AMD 955BE from 55c at load (upgraded from Arctic Cooling 64 Pro) to 42c at load. Just installed 8 GB Vengeance in my rig too... works like a charm.

Also, ditto on the 750 watt PS. I do love the corsair brand and the modular versions, just to eliminate the clutter in the case. You have to be careful with those though, corsair has a habit of saying modular when they mean semi-modular. I have the TX and HX models in my two rigs and they are still going strong after 4 years.

Guess it depends on how "set in your ways" you are with Windows. I hated 8 at first, but it's kind of grown on me. They really do have a lot of improvements under the hood and some nifty features... but allow for some relearning of the OS. Different hotkeys, no start button, getting metro to how you want it...

I only use Win8 at work and it's fine, but I don't love it enough to replace Win7 64bit at home.

I have used Corsair PSU for several builds. I always buy a 100 watts more than I need (I use one of the power calculators you can find on power supply manufacturer's websites, but run the same setup on more than one website to compare their recommendations).

I installed Windows 7 on my new build, since I am familiar with it, I don't have touch screens, and I like the classic desktop (I never used aero or whatever the name of that Windows 7 alternate desktop is called).

I have the R.A.T. 7 mouse which I have been using for more than a year and really like it. It replaced an older Razor (Diamondback maybe - I can't remember - previous equipment is like a previous wife, once you get something new you totally forget the previous one).

I have used a Logitech G15 keyboard for several years. I like the key pressure but I have never used any of the special functions of this keyboard (the 16 extra programmable keys) and I like its lighted keyboard.

If you want to use windows 8, get this

    http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

its 5 bucks and you can shut off a lot of the annoying this Win8 does out to the box. And you get your start button back :)
