Welcome to the Dead Presidents Guild FAQ
Completed by your friends [DP]JohnnyCanuck and [DP]Frateloder in the hopes you might find some of the answers to questions you may have regarding our group!
SECTION 1: The Leadership
Q: Who is 'in charge' of the Dead Presidents?
A: Right now, DP is lead by a group of leaders called the 'JCS'. JCS stands for 'Joint Chiefs of Staff', which is a play on the 'president' theme. (In 'real life,' the JCS is the council made up of all the highest ranked leaders of each branch of the military and intelligence, and made up to advise the President of the United States).
Q: OK, so who are the leaders that make up the JCS?
See the 'Bill of Leadership' for the current members who are filling these roles.
Q: What does the JCS do?
A: The JCS works together to resolve problems, create clan policy, discuss/make decisions, and votes on all such matters. We have a separate section of the site for this stuff. Individually, we all run our own part of the clan, and together we run the whole thing.
See the 'Constitution' for a description of how things get handled in the JCS.
Q: I have a question, suggestion, or a problem that I would like the JCS to know about. Who do I talk to?
A: Well, we'd like for you to first go to your team leader (who is a JCS member). If a response isn't timely, or if you'd simply like to talk with someone else, then please feel comfortable to speak with ANY JCS member via teamspeak or PM. Also, feel free to create a thread in the 'General Private' section of the forums and speak your mind... anything you'd like to know about, would like resolved, or see happen. We'll do what we feel is best for the clan as a whole.
SECTION 2: History and Philosophy of the Clan
Q: Where the hell did this clan come from, any way's?
A: Once upon a time, when the game 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein' was brand new, this clan was put together by a couple of truck drivers (LMAO!). They named the clan 'Dead Presidents' and decided that everyone who joined should have a 'president' for an alias. They called themselves [DP]Washington, and [DP]Adams... and started grabbing people from an RTCW community that had started up on a site called rtcwonline. Soon there were members like [DP]Kennedy, [DP]LBJ, [DP]
Monroe, [DP]
Jefferson, [DP]Hayes, etc etc. It got to the point where there was a growing problem with the whole 'your name has to be a president' policy, so it was dropped. Most members had already gotten used to their new names and kept them, while others went back to their original names (which they liked better).
Two teams formed out of all these goofy people: DP East and DP West. Later on, there were enough Europeans around to form a DP Euro squad too. Everyone played rtcw until they were blue in the face, and then they played some more. After awhile, there were some differences here and there between the leadership, and the [DP]Euro squad ended up leaving to form their own clan. Right around that time, there were some new teams of DP members starting up, as people began to 'move on' from rtcw. Decisions were made by the leadership, and we became a multi-game 'guild' instead of a single game 'clan.' Shortly after that, there was a 'break' from our original 'grand-poobah', [DP]
Washington. We moved our website and went from being under the authority of one person to much more of a 'leadership by committee', which is what you see in the JCS as explained above.
Q: So just what makes this clan different from other clans?
A: I just knew you were going to ask that! How did I know? BECAUSE I'M THE ONE WRITING THE DAMN FAQ!! Anyways, DP is all about having fun, making friends, and having some cool people to play games with. We are NOT about winning, clan reputation, 'pwning', thousands of scrimmages, and anger/deceit. While we all want to win, we don't base our lives and/or our game-playing on it. It is more important to the general DP member that there's this cool place to hang out and have fun. While everyone is welcome to participate and compete with the organized teams we have here for a few different games, it is not required. Everyone is welcome to participate at whatever level is good for them (in general, that is... each team may have their own policies about such things). There are VERY few requirements that we maintain here at DP.
DP is in a stage of growth that will outlast games as they come and go. DP can become a one of a kind guild within the worldwide gaming community for being amongst the first of its kind. A large gaming guild, with hundreds of members world wide, participating in a wide variety of online games, hosting numerous servers, participating in multiple leagues, a by gamers for gamers community. DP should work to cater itself to the newbie, as much as the advanced "pro-gamer". DP is becoming something larger than any of us. It is becoming its own entity. The JCS members strive to support a chain of command that will ensure the steady growth of DP for years to come, long after the current members have left.
And above all: "Respect, Honor, and Friendship above all else"
We have the opportunity to set a positive tone in the gaming world, and gain the respect that goes with it. We have to start getting there by taking it one step at a time, and this online manual will become a sort of business plan/operations and procedures manual, that will initiate the actions needed to get us there.
Q: What are the rules/policies of DP??
A: Another fantastic question!! Basically, all that DP requires is that you're over 18 and you treat all the DP members with respect and courtesy. One other rule is that we do not allow multi-clanning. There may be exceptions to this rule under very special circumstances, but this is a rule that we take seriously. If you have any questions about that, simply get a hold of a JCS member. Anyways, to sum up: don't be an asshat! Here are some other rules:
1) The Dead Presidents are about Fun, Friendship, Respect and Loyalty. We expect all our members to respect each other. We are all friends here and expect everyone to just have fun.
2) Play Fair! Cheaters and spawn killing will not be tolerated.
3) Sportsmanship. We will all try our best each and every time. Accusations of cheating or unfair play will not be tolerated.
4) The Leaders. Give them their fair share of respect. They are there for a reason, to keep things organized both internally and externally, and they spend a lot of time 'behind the scenes' keeping DP running.
5) Voting. Please do not initiate votes on other servers. Vote if you must but just don't start it.
6) Represent your guild well. As long as you use the [DP] tag you represent all of us so act accordingly.
7) Leave no stone unturned. If you have issues with other members please let a JCS member know so the issues can be worked out.
8) Attitude. Please leave all egos and bad attitudes at the door. We don't want them here.
9) Play your role. Everyone comes in with a role to play. Just do your part and everyone will be successful.
10) Team Play. This is a team, not a bunch of individuals. We expect everyone to play as a team.
11)Absolutely no forum threads or posts of a political or religious nature of any kind.
SECTION 3: General
Q: I've got a buddy that might want to join the clan. Who do I talk to?
A: Well, you can talk to 0xDEADBEEF and let him know. It's best to start out by getting them an account on our forum and then getting them setup on our teamspeak. Once you've got that handled, just stay in touch with your team leader or Adams for the rest.
Q: I've seen people on teamspeak with 'S' or 'C' after their name. I want that too!
A: Positions like Server Admin on teamspeak and Global Moderator on the forums are given to JCS members. We're going to stick to those rules to avoid any sort of popularity issues or 'kissing up' kind of stuff. Too many cooks can spoil the broth!!
Q: I'm a member of [such an such team], but I'm also interested in playing on [such an such team] too. Can I play on both?
A: Since we've branched out from our original game (RTCW), it's become a policy that anyone can play for as many teams as they have the time for. Have as much fun as you can take, but don't bite off more than you can chew, and remember that each team may have their own rules. Just get a hold of the team leader of the group you wanna play with.
Q: I'd like to help my team leader run the team. I've got some ideas and I'd like to contribute!
A: Let your team leader know that you'd like to fill a bigger role on the team. If there are any jobs that he/she could use some help with, I'm sure they'd appreciate the help.
Q: There have been some changes in my life and I don't think I'm going to be able to participate in the clan for awhile. Do I have to quit?
A: One of the ways that DP is different from other clans is that we're very laid back about such things. You are welcome to wear your DP tag for as long as you'd like, so go ahead and take a 'leave of action' or whatever you want to call it. We'll be here when you wanna jump back into the swing of things! (just post on the forum once in a while or show up on teamspeak for a couple of minutes here and there so we don't go months without hearing from ya.)
Q: I'm angry/frustrated about something with the clan!
A: Then talk to someone about it who can do something about it! We want there to be open communication, and we want everyone to have a good time here. If you're dissatisfied with someone or something DP, speak your mind! All we ask is that you're respectful and mature about that kind of stuff.
Q. Do I have to pay to play with DP?
A. No, DP is not a Pay to play clan, however it's only natural that there are some financial matters that have to be addressed in respect to domain hosting, server hosting and upkeep etc. What we ask here is that each member consider a $5, $10, or $20 donation (or more if you'd like... all is welcome) once in a while to keep the ship afloat. You can also sign up for a subscription... which REALLY helps us out when it comes to planning our budget! This is not a compulsory requirement but is greatly appreciated and helps keep the Guild going.
